OBJECTIVE: This article provides information about Supplemental Medical Insurance provided by MetLife.
Supplemental Medical Insurance
Help at Home provides Supplemental Medical Insurance through MetLife to complement your medical coverage. These voluntary plans—Hospital Indemnity, Critical Illness Standard, and Accident Standard—offer financial protection by helping you pay for certain expenses (through a cash payment made directly to you), such as deductibles, prescription medicines, and other related costs that may not be covered by your medical plan. For example, you can use your payment on transportation to doctors’ appointments, additional childcare, and so much more. You have total flexibility to spend the money on anything you need.
What Does a Supplemental Plan Cover?
-
Hospital Indemnity - Hospital Indemnity insurance provides a cash payment if you have a planned or unplanned hospital stay (due to childbirth, illness, injury, etc.) or receive other hospital services. Since hospital visits can be costly, this benefit provides coverage for those extra out-of-pocket expenses, beyond what your medical plan may cover.

Critical Illness Standard - Critical Illness Standard provides a cash payment if you are diagnosed with a covered condition, such as cancer, heart attack, stroke, or kidney failure. If a serious illness occurs, this coverage provides you with a lump-sum payment upon diagnosis of $20,000 for employee and $10,000 for spouse/domestic partner and/or child(ren).

With this benefit, you receive 24-hour coverage and can choose between a high and low plan for you and your family.

Consider Your Options
Enrolling in one or more of the Supplemental Medical Insurance plans, along with the Preventive Coverage Plan, might give you a sufficient level of coverage. You could also opt for Supplemental Medical Insurance in addition to one of the Cigna plans (Premium PPO Plan or $3,000 Deductible HSA Plan). For example, if you enroll in the $3,000 Deductible HSA Plan, Supplemental Medical Insurance can help “bridge the gap” toward meeting your deductible. Likewise, the Premium PPO Plan or $3,000 Deductible HSA Plan may be enough for you on their own, without one of these Supplemental Medical Insurance plans. It all depends on your health care needs. Be sure to consider your anticipated medical needs (for example, a pregnancy or major surgery) when deciding the right combination of plans for you.
